PSM Unpar Tabela Harati from Indonesia was presented with the prize during the closing ceremony of the 4th Vietnam International Choir Competition, which took place yesterday in Quang Nam Province.
The Indonesian team, with nine contending troupes, also took home most prizes, according to the organizer.
The three-day competition opened on Wednesday in the province’s Hoi An City, which is home to UNESCO-recognized Hoi An Ancient Town.
The event saw the participation of roughly 1,300 artists from 40 troupes in 15 countries and territories, who contended in 13 categories, including chamber music, church and folk choir performances.
The Vietnamese team bagged three gold medals.
Later on Saturday, the contending troupes treated locals and tourists to free performances of choirs, dance, and recitals of musical instruments in the streets in Hoi An Ancient Town.
The competition was jointly organized by Interkultur, a top German address for major musical events on the global scale, and the Hoi An City People’s Committee.
In March 2011, Interkultur selected Hoi An as the venue for the maiden Vietnam International Choir Competition.
In its second year, the contest took place in Hue City, located in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, in December 2012 before returning to Hoi An the following year.
