Hoi An joins global Car Free day

More than 300 local high school students on September 22 joined the first “Car Free Day” event in Hoi An city in the central province of Quang Nam.

Held by the city’s youth Uni-on in collaboration with the Action Center for City Development, the annual event, which is in its second year, aims to raise awareness on the environment. This time, it included a bicycle parade around the city, games, painting exhibition and outdoor activities under the theme of environment protection and traffic safety.

Originating f-rom European countries since 2002, Car Free day has been organized every September 22 when people give up their cars in the hope to reduce the amount of exhaust in the environment. Now, it is in “European Mobility Week” and has been spread worldwide with the attendance of over 2,000 cities in 40 countries.
