In 2017, the Party, authorities and people of Hoi An successfully completed the socio-economic targets and tasks set by the People's Council. The production value in comparision with 2010’s was estimated at 8,653.951 VND, increasing 16.56%; Of which, Tourism-services and commerce sector increased 17.19%; the industry and small industry increased 19.97%; Agriculture increased 2.07%. Per capita income reached 40.97 million VND, increased 4.19 million VND compared to 2016.

Emerging centuries ago as a sand islet in the middle of the Thu Bồn River, Cẩm Nam Commune has been known by several names: Cồn Hến, meaning mussel islet, and Cồn Bắp, maize islet. It has drawn migrants seeking lives as successful peasants since the late 14th century. The commune, 3km south of Hội An ancient town, has now become an eco-tourism destination with tranquil rural scenery and traditional farming on the river banks. Bùi Hoài Nam reports.

The historic city of Hoi An will re-enact a 17th-century wedding parade held for Princess Ngoc Hoa and Japanese businessman Araki Sotaro in the old quarter as part of the 14th annual Hoi An-Japan Culture Festival from Aug 18 to 20.
