Hoi An will become the first city in Viet Nam participating in the event :”Car Free Day” (CFD)

The conference “ Sharing Experiences on organizing Car Free Day” was taken place at Phan Chau Trinh University, Hoi An City. It is held by the people’s committee of Hoi An city in co-operation with Japan Car Free Day Organization and the action center for urban development.

People who attended the conference were the leaders of  departments, branches directly under the People’s Committee of  Hoi An city, The People’s Committee of wards and the  Representatives of  Phan Chau Trinh University, the Central College of Electric Power and Water Resources College.
Ms. Ciara Leonard – a coordinator of the European Mobility Week Organization (EMW)is sharing experiences on organizing CFD.
 
At the conference, experts f-rom Europe, Japan introduced the initiatives to mobilize communities to join and discuss the lessons that can be applied to Hoi An in order to organize CFD that will take place on September 09,2012 in Hoi An.
 
Ms. Ciara Leonard, coordinator of EMW said: "EMW is being launched during a week, f-rom September16 to September22  annually in Europe. This activity is an attempt to improve urban traffic, towards building a friendly environment city in which the transportation will not much depend on motor vehicles. Currently, the movement has spread worldwide with the participation of 2268 cities. I find that Hoi An has been being in the right direction that more than 10 years were held the pedestrian quarter. Hoi An entirely has objective and subjective conditions to be the 2269th  city of EMW network and will receive our help as well. "
 
Ms. Huynh Thi Huong, Head of Organization – Administration – External Affairs, Phan Chau Trinh University said that : “Nearly 10 years,  Hoi An city has done very well the movement of  the city without engine noise. And now, to expand the scope of  activities in order to change people’s awareness and also the habit of using  motorcycles, the project should encourage more participants, pay more attention to students and especially travel enterprise. "

Tran Huy Anh, an architect - advisor of the Public Space Program of the Action Center For the Urban Development said:  “Car Free Day” will be first held in Hoi An in Septemper 09, the space of "a city without engine noise" that Hoi An has been organizing for 10 years, will spread in places outside the ancient town with diversified activities.
