1. On December 4, 1999, UNESCO honored Hội An as a World Cultural Heritage of Humanity for its outstanding universal values. Hội An met UNESCO criteria II and V at that time.

At 3PM, December 7th, 2017, (Vietnam time zone), at the 12th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Jeju (Korea), The art of Bài Chòi in Central Vietnam has officially been listed in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
