Earth hour 2020 “Save Energy - Save Earth”

Earth Hour is an annual environmental campaign organized by the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF). The event is held encouraging organizations, individuals, households and businesses to contribute to the fight against climate change through concrete actions, such as turning off their non-essential lights and electrical equipment during this event.
In 2020, with the theme of “Save Energy, Save Earth”, the event aims to deliver a message that energy use in manufacturing and living is one of the factors that causes climate change, affecting to natural environment and species’ life on Earth. Saving energy is the way to optimize the economic values and protect our planet.

With an orientation of building Hội An as an ecological, cultural and tourist city as well as a peaceful and eco-friendly destination; Hội An is one of the localities participating in the Earth Hour campaign from the first year in Vietnam (2009) until now.

In response to Earth Hour 2020, however, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, Hội An city will not organize the Launching Ceremony and cultural and artistic activities like previous years. This year, the City calls for responses by many practical actions, including switching off non-essential lights and electrical equipment from 20:30 to 21:30 on March 28th, 2020.

In recent years, the response to Earth Hour in the city has achieved encouraging results. It is gaining people’s awareness on the importance of natural protection, environmental protection as well as self-protection of our lives.
