Is it safe to travel Vietnam during the Coronavirus outbreak?

As Vietnam shares the border with China and welcomes a huge amount of Chinese visitors each year, it is not easy to avoid the outbreak of Coronavirus from our neighborhood country which cause the anxiety for all the visitors who is coming and will come to Vietnam at this time. So, is it safe or not to travel Vietnam right at the middle of the novel Coronavirus outbreak?
Is there any case of Coronavirus in Vietnam?

The answer is “yes”. The 2 first patients who was infected by Coronavirus are Chinese father and son. The father was from Wuhan flew to Vietnam to visit his son who is working here and he was infected (but did not know about it). After this case, Vietnam found out 8 more patients who was infected Coronavirus, 1 of these patients is a receptionist who checked in for the 2 first patients above in a hotel while they were travelling, other people were trained in Wuhan before comeback to Vietnam for Tet holiday. Up until now (10th Feb, 2020), there are 14 Coronavirus infected cases were found, most of them are people who cameback from Wuhan and their relatives & neighbors who met them during Tet holiday. It is believed that there might be a slight increase of the infected cases until the summer come and high temperature can limit the virus.

Is it dangerous to visit Vietnam during the worldwide Coronavirus outbreak?

Although there are 14 infected cases was found (according to the statistic at the end of 09th Feb), 6 patients were cured and have leaved the hospital already, others are believed that they will be cured soon and all are in stable condition. Different from the difficult situation in China where the number of infected people and also death are increasing everyday, Vietnam government has isolated all Vietnamese citizens who come back from China these days and the number of new infected cases is limited a lot up until now.

As an action to prevent the development of Coronavirus outbreak in Vietnam, the Vietnamese government has just restricted flights from and to China and no travelers from China can enter Vietnam through all the border gates (either air or road ones). In addition, the government also encourage locals not to congregate, especially in public place; besides, many big events are canceled to avoid the congregation; therefore, the possibility of spreading Coronavirus in Vietnam is limited at the lowest level. In fact, in this period, although the number of visitors to Vietnam declines rapidly, still there are many tourists travelling at popular destinations like Hanoi, Halong, Sapa, Ninh Binh, Danang, Ho Chi Minh City, etc. and they are not really worry about the Coronavirus as it seems like the outbreak has not happened in Vietnam and the number of infected cases is really low (even lower than the number of seasonal flu cases in the United State and Australia).

What to prepare to travel Vietnam and prevent Coronavirus?

Don’t think about buying mask when you arrive in Vietnam, the price is really high and supplies are limited.

However, it is not easy to find clean water and soap whenever you need to wash your hand, therefore, 1-2 bottles of hand sanitizer are a must in your travel luggage. And just like medical mask, you should not wait until arrive in Vietnam to buy hand sanitizer, it is hard to find now and the price is high unreasonably.

Vitamins: everyone knows that vitamins can help a lot to increase the resistance of human body; therefore, you should bring along multi vitamins (especially vitamin C) and also eat a lot of fruits and vegetable during your trip.
