These cameras can identify and trace vehicles completely automatically. The system includes 52 surveillance cameras installed around the city.

At the same time, several old cameras in the ancient quarter have been changed by new ones. The cameras can identify vehicle registration plates and analyse related information, helping security staffs detect and deal with road traffic violations, maintain traffic order and safety in Hoi An.

Reportedly, a camera can analyse information of over 5 thousand vehicles a day. It can make a list of suspicious vehicles; identify vehicles based on their number plates; show exact location of the vehicle breaking the traffic rules, their traffic violations. The system can also collect data about traffic flows in the city.

The system is an effective and useful tool that helps to ensure the safety and security in the city. Thanks to the cameras system, Hoi An police force has controlled the local situation of security and order, making Hoi An a safe destination for visitors, contributing to the development of Hoi An tourism and the local socioeconomic growth.
